[Tallanvor|Martyn Tallanvor] escorts [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] to the main gate of the [Royal Palace] and chastises [Elber] for refusing him entrance. He continues through the gate with [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] and asks more about the [White Tower]. Who is [Sheriam|Sheriam Bayanar] and what is special about her study?[1] [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] says he honestly knows nothing. [Tallanvor|Martyn Tallanvor] is loyal to [Morgase|Morgase Trakand] to the death and is concerned there are things happening that he does not understand. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] leaves him and returns to [The Queen's Blessing|The Queens Blessing]. He tells [Thom|Thom Merrilin] and Master [Gill|Basel Gill] that he is leaving immediately. Master [Gill|Basel Gill] is concerned and asks if [Elayne|Elayne Trakand]'s letter soothed [Morgase|Morgase Trakand]. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] says yes and asks him about [Gaebril|Rahvin]. [Gill|Basel Gill] replies that he came from the west last winter, from the [Two Rivers] or perhaps the mountains. He came while [Morgase|Morgase Trakand] was still at [Tar Valon]. He restored order, and when [Morgase|Morgase Trakand] returned she was so pleased she gave him [Elaida|Elaida do Avriny aRoihan]'s position as advisor. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] asks about the succession and [Gill|Basel Gill] tells him [Morgase|Morgase Trakand]'s cousin, Lady [Dyelin|dyelin] is next in line after [Elayne|Elayne Trakand]. That is clear-cut so it would happen immediately and not take two years like [Morgase|Morgase Trakand]'s succession to [Tigraine|Tigraine Mantear]. [Gill|Basel Gill] also mentions having bad dreams since [Gaebril|Rahvin] arrived.[2] [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] tells them what he overheard. [Gill|Basel Gill] concurs with the description of Lord [Comar|comar] and says he was a leader in the [Queen's Guards|Caemlyn] till he was accused of using weighted dice. [Gill|Basel Gill] says he can start a rumor about the danger to [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] by telling [Gilda|gilda] the maid. [Thom|Thom Merrilin] says that after fifteen years he is no longer passionate about [Morgase|Morgase Trakand]. He agrees to accompany [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] to [Tear|Tear (City)]. They will ride back to [Aringill] and catch a fast ship. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] gives [Gaebril|Rahvin]'s purse to [Gill|Basel Gill] telling him it is the stakes in their game and [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] always wins.
