[Suroth] complains that [Liandrin] is hours late and [Liandrin] says that she expected [Ishamael] to be present. [Liandrin] says that what they do to [channelers] is an abomination and [Suroth] says that the [Seanchan (People)] respect [One Power] so much that they believe that no one should wield it and that the [sul'dam|suldam] train for years and earn their right to wield the [One Power] unlike the [Aes Sedai]. [Perrin], [Aviendha] and [Hopper] are at a campfire, cooking dinner. [Aviendha] remarks that [Perrin] doesn't "dance the spears" badly. [Perrin] say he thought that [Aiel] never left the [Aiel Waste]. She corrects him, saying that that's the wetlanders term, but for the [Aiel], it's called the "Three-Fold Land." A shaping stone to make them, a testing ground to prove their worth and a punishment for a (unknown and long lost) sin. [Aviendha] tells [Perrin] that she left there because she's looking for the "Car'a'carn" (the chief of chiefs). [Aviendha] is staying with [Perrin], though, because she owes him "toh", which is part of the [Aiel] way of life called "ji'e'toh". She owes him this because he saved her life. In response to her question, [Perrin] says he's headed to [Falme].

[Nynaeve] remembers that it's where [Liandin] said [Perrin] and [Loial] are. [Elayne] tells [Nynaeve] not to draw attention to themselves, as the [Seanchan|Seanchan (People)] will be looking for them here. [Elayne] realizes that the soldiers are complete foreigners. [Nynaeve] starts to walk off but [Elayne] stops her, telling her that they need to change their clothes. They continue to walk, but a large man knocks them out (add note: it's [Basan]).

[Moiraine] is in her room relaxing and cleaning herself up. [Anvaere] knocks and enters, telling her that the horses are being saddled downstairs. [Moiraine] won't tell her how they arrived in such a disheveled state, but [Anvaere] helps her clean up. She also says, that knowing [Moiraine] her whole life, she can tell that [Moiraine] has no idea what to do next. [Moiraine] says that [Rand] needs protection, but she's not sure that she can give it to him, and even worse is if she makes the wrong choice, then [Anvaere], [Barthanes] and all of [Cairhien|Cairhien (City)] may be caught in the crossfire. [Anvaere] recalls a time when she was a child, that her older sister said that if something is upsetting you, or making you afraid, then ask yourself one question: is it true? [Anvaere] then asks [Moiraine] if she's positive that [Rand] needs her protection, which causes [Moiraine] to rethink the whole issue and admit that it was good advice. [Moiraine] then reconsiders staying there instead of riding off on the horses.

[Ishamael] tells [Lanfear] that the reason the [Dark One] talks only to him is because he's the only Forsaken who believes that the only way to stop all the suffering is to break the Wheel itself.
[Lanfear] wonders why [Ishamael] released her, and it's because he knows what she really wants. [Lanfear] tells him that [Rand], unlike [Lews Therin|Lews Therin Telamon (Show)], takes no pride in his birthright and rejects his own power. [Ishamael] tells her that [Egwene] craves power, but [Nynaeve] fears it. Also, that [Mat] was "born mine" and [Perrin] will soon be more wolf than man. [Lanfear] thinks that [Rand] will break if he sees that all of his friends are lost.
