TSR: Need

Nynaeve POV#

Nynaeve is in Tel'aran'rhiod in the Heart of the Stone. Again, she feels watched. Amys, Bair and Egwene appear looking misty. They are half-asleep while riding. Egwene tells Nynaeve about the attack on Cold Rocks Hold and that Seana, one of the dreamwalkers, is dead. Rand has them hurrying to Alcair Dal. Egwene is frustrated that she promised Elayne she would look after Rand, but she does not know how. Nynaeve tells Egwene about recent events. Nynaeve wants to enter Amathera's dreams to see if she is a Darkfriend. Bair tells her that is foolish and dangerous. Amathera would control her. Nynaeve then suggests forcing Amathera into Tel'aran'rhiod. Amys says that is an evil thing to do. That was the way of the Shadow during the Shadow War. Amys explains that she can use Need and describes how it works. Egwene recognizes that she used Need before.[1] They tell her it is still very dangerous because you have no control or knowledge of where you will land. Nynaeve does not tell Egwene about Egeanin, remembering her nightmares after being leashed in Falme. Nynaeve and Egwene agree to meet again in seven days and the other three women disappear. She thinks of Need and the Panarch's Palace and danger to Rand.

She is in a huge bedroom. There is a woman, naked except for a crown and stole, clearly under torment. Nynaeve recognizes the other woman in the room as Temaile Kinderode, realizes that the first woman must be Amathera and quickly thinks of Need again.

Nynaeve is in the museum of the Panarch's Palace. She sees another woman appear. The woman examines a glass case, then a white stone stand. Nynaeve realizes she is shaking, then suddenly she remembers the woman and the interview.[2] Furious, she prepares to attack, but Birgitte appears next to her and urgently points to a door. Nynaeve ignores her and opens herself to the One Power, but the other woman is gone. Still angry, Nynaeve goes to the room where Birgitte pointed. Birgitte is waiting there. She tells Nynaeve that the woman is Moghedien and the man near Rhuidean was Asmodean. Nynaeve is confused by Birgitte's existence, so Birgitte explains. The Heroes of the Horn live in Tel'aran'rhiod when they are not living lives. When the Horn calls them they are not there in the flesh, so the One Power does not affect them. Here in Tel'aran'rhiod the One Power could destroy her easily. Birgitte has been watching all of them. She is helping even though she is not supposed to. Gaidal Cain appears and agrees that she should not be helping. Birgitte tells Nynaeve she will help if she can, but it will not be much. Nynaeve asks about Moghedien. Birgitte says Moghedien is even stronger than Lanfear in Tel'aran'rhiod. She also has a grudge against Birgitte. Birgitte and Gaidal Cain vanish. Nynaeve then goes to see what Moghedien was examining. The glass case contains one of the seals. Once more she uses Need.

She is standing in front of the white stone stand. A necklace and two bracelets of black metal, the sad bracelets, lie on top. She touches it and feels waves of pain and sorrow. She is convinced that this is the danger to Rand. She feels herself waking.

Elayne POV#

Elayne wakes Nynaeve. Nynaeve tells Egeanin and her the whole story. As they discuss the sad bracelets, they realize it must be a male a'dam. They hear a commotion outside and open the door. Thom, Juilin and Bayle are there with an unconscious man who attacked Thom. Egeanin suddenly realizes she is in her shift and shrieks in mortification. When she is properly dressed, she tells them the unconscious man is the Seeker. He was after her, but now may be after the others as well. They agree to dump him out back rather than kill him. When Nynaeve comments on her reaction, Egeanin says she is no shea dancer. The men go downstairs to order tea from Rendra while Elayne, Nynaeve and Egeanin plan their assault on the Panarch's Palace.
