There Is Neither Beginning Nor End

Rand POV#

Rand awakens from a raging fever[1] back at the top of the cliff. All that is left of Aginor is oily ashes and burned cloth. He climbs back down the hill and finds Egwene, Nynaeve and Moiraine by the great oak that was the Green Man. Moiraine says Aginor let her go. He was surprised and angry that she could hold him as well as she could. In the Age of Legends he was almost as strong as Lews Therin and Ishamael. Aginor and Balthamel must have been trapped near the surface, so they escaped first. Rand tells Moiraine he killed the Dark One. He tells her everything that happened, including Kari al'Thor. Moiraine says she suspected it was him because he resisted her token and because Bela was mysteriously Healed. She cannot teach him. Only she, Lan, Nynaeve and Egwene need to know. Mat, Perrin and Loial do not. Rand asks if he will be gentled and Moiraine tells him the Pattern is not yet done with him. He asks if he will be used like Raolin Darksbane, Guaire Amalasan, Yurian Stonebow, Davian and Logain. Mat, Perrin, Lan and Loial come out of the cave. The Eye of the World is gone. They found the Horn of Valere, the Dragon Banner and one of the seals, which is broken. Moiraine can open the chest containing the Horn. It has a legend that reads, "Tia mi aven Moridin isainde vadin" ("The grave is no bar to my call"). Moiraine says it must be taken to Illian. She says the seal is made of cuendillar, Heartstone, yet it is broken. She wonders what was the Eye of the World really intended for. They notice the Green Man's garden is beginning to die. They make camp for the night.
