ACoS: The Bowl of the Winds

Aviendha POV#

Aviendha, Elayne, Nynaeve and Birgitte are on a boat headed to a Sea Folk ship. The Aes Sedai at the palace know that Birgitte is Elayne's Warder and are upset about it. All but Birgitte do not sweat. Aviendha wonders how she and Elayne should deal with Min. She and Elayne are very close now; Aviendha is sure they will adopt each other as first-sisters.[1] Rand was her first lover.

Elayne and Nynaeve dreamed of Egwene last night.[2] They are worried that Nicola and Areina might do something to Egwene. They are very worried that Moghedien might come after them. They agree to ask Mat to help in their search because he is ta'veren. It was Aviendha's idea. Nynaeve still does not like the idea. She says Mat will be worse than Adeleas or Vandene or Merilille in the Rahad. Aviendha still does not know who Birgitte really is. Amys has told Aviendha she has too much pride.

They arrive at the Sea Folk ship. The Sea Folk on the ship did not know they were Aes Sedai. They meet Malin din Toral Breaking Wave, Wavemistress of Clan Somarin, Sailmistress of Windrunner, Nesta din Reas Two Moons, Mistress of the Ships, Dorile din Eiran Long Feather, Windfinder, and Baroc, Master of the Blades. The girls ask the Sea Folk how they intend to help the Coramoor. Baroc cites from the Jendai prophecy, "the doom of the Prophecy sails the oceans."[3] The girls tell them about the ter'angreal they seek. They want Windfinders in the circle that runs it because they know so much about weather. The Sea Folk know about it and call it the Bowl of the Winds; it has been missing for two thousand years.[4] Nesta sends Baroc to summon all Wavemistresses in port and the First Twelve. Birgitte knows Sea Folk sayings and oaths. Aviendha suggested asking the Windfinders for help in case they could not take the Bowl back to Salidar. The Sea Folk begin bargaining and it is clear that Elayne and Nynaeve are out of their league.

Notes (Possible Spoilers)#

[#1] It will happen in WH,Prologue.
[#2] So it is the same day as ACoS,Ch12.
[#3] Probably the Seanchan. This may also be the "doom yet to come" that Ishamael tells to Rand in TEotW,Ch14.
[#4] Is this meant to imply that the Bowl of the Winds was lost during the Trolloc Wars?
