Faile POV#

Perrin tells Faile that he smells a strangeness. The wolves are all gone. She is worried about him going to the wolf dream. She is angry at Morgase for concealing her identity in Malden. Will Lini and Master Gill turn out to be nobles as well? Perrin thinks Balwer must be having a fit for not learning their identities.[1] Faile is worried about the trial but Perrin assures her that he will not let himself be taken. Galad smells better to him than the others. She saw the way Berelain and Galad looked at each other and plans to make use of it. Perrin goes to sleep.

Perrin POV#

In the wolf dream Perrin is at the Tower of Ghenjei. Hopper tells him to stay away; the place is evil. Perrin says he just found himself there. Hopper tells him either his mind is focused on it or the mind of someone connected to him. Mat. In the wolf dream the colors do not swirl.[2] Hopper vanishes and Perrin now easily follows. They are on the Jehannah Road and the violet dome is there. Oak Dancer, Sparks and Boundless are trapped inside with Slayer. Perrin tries to pass through but it knocks him down. Hopper is stronger and makes it through. Perrin runs through it, collapsing but quickly recovering.[3] Sparks is wounded. Hopper goes to distract Slayer while Perrin rescues Sparks. He finds the wolf, returns to the edge of the dome and jumps through. Slayer appears just inside the dome with a drawn arrow and Perrin shifts to Dragonmount. The wolves there greet him. Slayer does not follow. Hopper sends that Whisperer is dead. Perrin and Hopper will practice every night until he is strong enough to face Slayer.

Ituralde POV#

Ituralde cannot sleep due to the heat and mugginess in Maradon. Durhem commands the morning watch. One of his guards is Connel. A boy brings word that Captain Yoeli needs him on the wall. Ituralde finds him with full Asha'man Deepe Bhadar. There are thousands of Trollocs camped around the city. Deepe reports that he can feel at least six men channeling down there, something powerful. Deepe says something terrible is about to happen and they are all too exhausted to fight it. There is an explosion. When Ituralde recovers there is a large hole in the wall near him. Deepe is maimed, missing a leg. Connel helps Ituralde to the sick tent where Antail restores his energy without Healing. He Heals Deepe saving his life. They go to Cordamora Palace that Ituralde has been using as headquarters. The city is in chaos and Trollocs are crossing the moat on rafts followed by Fades. Ituralde begins planning a retreat but Yoeli pleads for him to stay. There is a watchfire to the east, a signal from his sister[4] that help is coming. Ituralde sends Tymoth, second in command after Deepe, and the other Asha'man except for Antail to defend the hole in the wall. They defend for nearly an hour. The Dreadlords do not participate.[5] The Asha'man abandon the wall and the Trollocs enter the city down the main avenue. It is a carefully laid trap. Arrows rain down on the Trollocs and the remaining Saldaean cavalry tramples them. The remaining Trollocs flee and Ituralde plans another trap.

Notes (Possible Spoilers)#

[#1] Of course Balwer knew all along. He just did not tell.
[#2] This is the second clear statement of this effect. Rand noted the same effect in Tel'aran'rhiod in TGS,Ch15.
[#3] The presence of the dreamspike in Tel'aran'rhiod prevents Traveling in the real world and mental shifting in the dream world.
[#4] Sigril
[#5] Raising questions, exactly who were these men? Why did they make one huge push to knock down the wall, then leave?
