[Rand|Rand alThor] leaves [Far Madding] via the [Caemlyn Gate|Far Madding]. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] [Healed|Weaves] his bruises and [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran]'s broken arm. He feels he is now harder than ever. He rides with [Min|Min Farshaw], followed by [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin], then [Alivia] and the [Sea Folk], then [Verin|Verin Mathwin] and the other five [Aes Sedai] sworn to him and the four who are [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin]'s companions.[1] 

[Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] brings the [access keys|Control Statues]. Suddenly [Rand|Rand alThor] can sense the [True Source] again and seizes %%ot [saidin|Said]%%. [Lews Therin|Lews Therin Telamon] sighs with relief. [Harine|Harine din Togara Two Winds] will barely let him out of her sight, but [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] makes it clear that he must uphold his bargain with her. They ride north to the place where [Rand|Rand alThor] hid %%ot [Callandor]%%. He announces that he intends to cleanse %%ot [saidin|Said]%% with the [Choedan Kal]. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] will [link|Linking] with him. [Lews Therin|Lews Therin Telamon] shrieks that they were never tested. The other [Aes Sedai] try to argue with him, but [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] just asks where. He says [Shadar Logoth|Aridhol (City)] and [Lews Therin|Lews Therin Telamon] screams and flees. 

[Rand|Rand alThor] opens a gateway to a sparse, hilly forest a few miles north of [Shadar Logoth|Aridhol (City)]. [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] then takes charge. She sends [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran], [Nethan] and [Bassane] to scout. She then gathers the other [Aes Sedai]. [Harine|Harine din Togara Two Winds] and [Moad] sit on a hillside. [Rand|Rand alThor] and [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] sit down, ready to begin. [Alivia] comes over and takes the [bracelet and rings] and the [jewelry set|Jewelry Set] from [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara]. As [Rand|Rand alThor] releases %%ot [saidin|Said]%%, he sees a vague image of a face that is almost recognizable.[3] Taking the [access keys|Control Statues], [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] initiates the [link|Linking] with [Rand|Rand alThor], then passes control back to him. [Elza|Elza Penfell] regrets fighting the [Chosen|Forsaken], but she is sure the [Great Lord|ShaiTan] will understand.[14] She sees [Corlan Dashiva|OsanGar] on a nearby hilltop. Drawing on %%ot [Callandor]%%, she vaporizes the top fifty feet of the hill.

[Moghedien] feels no more [channeling|True Source] except for the [access key|Control Statues]. The battle must be over. The black dome is now two miles high. Suddenly the dome collapses in on itself and vanishes. The wind howls filling the void and lifting her into the air. She thinks that if she survives this she will never be afraid again.[7]

[Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] examines the female [access key|Control Statues], now melted and broken.[15] The male [access key|Control Statues] is in her saddlebags with %%ot [Callandor]%%. Where [Shadar Logoth|Aridhol (City)] used to be there is now only a huge hole in the forest. [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] returns and goes to [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara]. [Min|Min Farshaw] is with [Rand|Rand alThor]. [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] tells [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] that [Corele|Corele Hovian] already checked them. They are unconscious and should recover on their own. The wounds in [Rand|Rand alThor]'s side are unchanged. [Damer|Damer Flinn] [Heals|Weaves#h] the wounded, including [Beldeine|Beldeine Nyram] and [Alivia]. [Sarene|Sarene Nemdahl] is in shock form her near death experience. [Verin|Verin Mathwin] and [Shalon|Shalon din Togara Morning Tide] pray over the body of [Kumira]. [Daigian|Daigian Moseneillin] weeps over [Eben|Eben Hopwil]. [Jahar|Jahar Narishma] and [Damer|Damer Flinn] say that %%ot [saidin|Said]%% is clean, but [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] wonders if the taint is completely gone. [#1] Where is [Erian Boroleos]? She arrives at [Far Madding] in [WH,Ch23] then she is never mentioned again. The count of five [Aes Sedai] sworn to [Rand|Rand alThor] in addition to [Verin|Verin Mathwin] implies that she is with the group that leaves [Far Madding], but she is not mentioned as participating in the defense at [Shadar Logoth|Aridhol (City)]. In an interview Jordan stated that this is, indeed, a mistake and that it will be corrected in later printings. She stayed with the [Warder] to help guard [Min|Min Farshaw] and [Harine|Harine din Togara Two Winds]. In the [Tor Website Q&A|Guide#3] Jordan also stated that [Semirhage] participated in the attack. [Mesaana] was the only [Forsaken] who failed to appear.
