In their room, [Min|Min Farshaw] is furious with [Rand|Rand alThor], saying even a half-blind goat in [Seleisin] has more sense than to walk into a trap. He is adamant about his mission to kill [Gedwyn|Charl Gedwyn] and [Torval|Peral Torval] even if it is a trap. She thinks about using the strap Mistress [Keene] has in every room. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara], [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] and [Alivia] enter. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] wears only two pieces of jewelry, a [bracelet with red stones|Jewelry Set] and the [jeweled belt|Jewelry Set]. [Rand|Rand alThor], [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] and [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] leave to take care of business. They leave [Alivia] behind to make sure [Min|Min Farshaw] does not follow. [Alivia] reminds [Min|Min Farshaw] of her Aunt [Rana]. [Min|Min Farshaw] convinces [Alivia] that [Rand|Rand alThor] is doing something foolish and they both leave to find [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin].

[Rand|Rand alThor] scouts [Zeram]'s house on Blue Carp Street while [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] and [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] wait down the street. [Rand|Rand alThor] buys a meat pie and asks the street vendor about [Zeram]. The vendor says [Zeram]'s wife, [Milsa] rents out the top floor of their house. [Lews Therin|Lews Therin Telamon] comments that he used to like meat pies. After a while, [Rand|Rand alThor] sees [Gedwyn|Charl Gedwyn] and [Torval|Peral Torval] enter. [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] and [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] walk up. [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] says the [bracelet with red stones|Jewelry Set] covers her with armor better than steel. They go back to the alley and [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] uses the [jeweled belt|Jewelry Set] to lift [Rand|Rand alThor] and [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] to the roof. They enter the attic via a trapdoor. They find another trapdoor and drop down into a storage room. 

They find [Gedwyn|Charl Gedwyn] and [Torval|Peral Torval] dead, their bodies black and swollen. [Rand|Rand alThor] realizes it was [Fain|Padan Fain] and the wound in his side throbs. They open to door to the next room where [Fain|Padan Fain] and [Toram Riatin] are waiting. [Fain|Padan Fain] orders [Toram Riatin] to kill [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran], then focuses on [Rand|Rand alThor]. [Rand|Rand alThor] holds him off with his sword and [Fain|Padan Fain] flees down the stairs. As [Rand|Rand alThor] starts to follow, he sees a vision of [Gedwyn|Charl Gedwyn] and [Torval|Peral Torval] climbing up.[1] [Gedwyn|Charl Gedwyn] says they will not go near him until they know where the others are. "The [M'Hael|Mazrim Taim] will kill us if..."[2] [Rand|Rand alThor] slashes through the visions and slashes the side of [Fain|Padan Fain]'s face. [Fain|Padan Fain] shrieks and flees down the stairs.[3] [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] comes over, having dispatched [Toram Riatin], and tells [Rand|Rand alThor] that guards are coming.[4] They go back to the roof. [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] slips, [Rand|Rand alThor] grabs his hand and they both fall to the alley below.

! Notes (Possible Spoilers)

[#1] Some have speculated that [Gedwyn|Charl Gedwyn] and [Torval|Peral Torval] are the first appearance of ghosts but Robert Jordan has confirmed that [Fain|Padan Fain] has the ability to create illusions from the recent past as also demonstrated in [TGH,Ch10].
\\[#2] [Rand|Rand alThor] apparently does not catch this comment, or assumes it just means that [Taim|Mazrim Taim] will kill them as traitors if he catches them.
\\[#3] [Fain|Padan Fain] escapes, but it will be a while before we see him again.
