[Mat|Matrim Cauthon] sits on a stool in [The Seven-Striped Lass], a tavern in [Caemlyn]. He is playing with %%black [Verin|Verin Mathwin]'s%% letter, still unopened. He is visiting taverns to hear rumors. The tavern keeper is [Melli Craeb]. She is pretty, but [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] is married now so he thinks she might be good for [Talmanes|Talmanes Delovinde]. She is not a pretty as [Tuon|Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag]. The bouncer is [Berg]. A pretty serving girl passes and he thinks she might be good for [Thom|Thom Merrilin]. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] is going by the name -Lord Crimson- and is growing a beard. Too many footpads have pictures of him[1] plus he has been nervous about crowds since [Hinderstap]. 

[Mat|Matrim Cauthon] finishes his ale and goes to another tavern, [The Dead Man's Breath|The Dead Mans Breath]. The tavern keeper is [Bernherd]. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] thinks he should have [Lopin] remove the lace on his coat for a place like this. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] joins a dice game with [Chaser] and [Clare]. They say that [Jowdry] was killed over at [The Farrier's Green|The Farriers Green], throat torn out and drained of blood. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon]'s dice all land on their corners and the dice start up in his head. The %%ot [gholam|Gholam]%% is in [Caemlyn]. 

[Mat|Matrim Cauthon] takes the [Queen's Walk|caemlyn] to find [Thom|Thom Merrilin]. He sent a letter to [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] but got no response. He needs to send another as he needs to warn her as well as talk about [Aludra]'s dragons. He has a score to settle for [Nalesean|Nalesean Aldiaya] and [Tylin|Tylin Quintara]. He has the [foxhead medallion|Foxhead Medallion] as always. He finds [Thom|Thom Merrilin] playing the flute in [The Two Apples]. The innkeeper is [Bromas]. He thinks she might be good for [Vanin|Chel Vanin]. 

He collects [Thom|Thom Merrilin] and they head back to the [Band|Band of the Red Hand]'s camp a league outside of the city. A clerk named [Norry|Halwin Norry] gave them permission. [Thom|Thom Merrilin] wishes [The Queen's Blessing|The Queens Blessing] were still open. [Gill|Basel Gill] always had good information. They have learned that the [Tower of Ghenjei] is where [Domon|Bayle Domon] said, northwest of [Whitebridge]. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] has a vague memory but his memory has holes like [Jori Congar]'s alibis. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] wanted confirmation as [Domon|Bayle Domon] and [Leilwin|Egeanin Tamarath] don't seem to like him much. He wants accurate enough information for someone to make a gateway there, but he does not know who, since [Verin|Verin Mathwin] vanished. 

As they approach the camp a squad of [Redarms|Band of the Red Hand] salutes. The sergeant, [Gufrin], reports that the three [Aes Sedai] returned to the camp. They had been staying in the city. The [Band|Band of the Red Hand] rejoined with [Estean|Estean Andiama] and the others who went ahead to [Andor]. Mentally, [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] plans improvements on the camp based on his memories of the Battle of [Marisin Valley|coremanda] back in [Coremanda]. As he nears his tent, %%red [Teslyn|Teslyn Baradon]%% approaches. She, %%green [Joline|Joline Maza]%% and %%yellow [Edesina|Edesina Azzedin]%% want to return to the [White Tower]. There are conflicting rumors about the [White Tower] and the rebels. [Teslyn|Teslyn Baradon] came to thank [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] for rescuing her from the [Seanchan|Seanchan (People)]. He offers her horses for the trip. He lifts the flap to his tent and smells...blood.
