! __Perrin__ POV

[Perrin|Perrin Aybara] and [Aram] are alone in the common room of the [Winespring Inn]. He is writing a letter to [Faile|Zarine Bashere]. [Ban al'Seen] enters and reports that the scouts have reports thousands of [Trollocs] to the north and south. Outside, [Wil al'Seen] now proudly carries the wolf-head banner. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] mounts [Stepper] and rides to the center of the village where the women are amassed guarding the children. [Marin al'Vere], [Daise Congar], [Alsbet Luhhan] and [Neysa Ayellin] have organized the older children including [Bodewhin|Bodewhin Cauthon] and [Eldrin|Eldrin Cauthon]. The [TuathaAn] including [Raen] and [Ila] are with the children as well. [Ban alSeen] and [Tell|Tell Lewin] ride with [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] and [Wil|Wil alSeen] and the rest follow. [Aram] refuses to leave [Perrin|Perrin Aybara]. [Dain Bornhald], [Jaret Byar] and the rest of the [Whitecloaks|Children of the Light], about four hundred, are mounted nearby preparing to leave. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] offers to let them arrest him if they stay and [Dain|Dain Bornhald] agrees. At the west end [Haral Luhhan] and [Abell Cauthon] have everyone organized. At the south, [Tam al'Thor|Tam alThor] is in charge with [Alanna|Alanna Mosvani] and [Ihvon]. [Jon Thane] and [Samel Crawe] have the east. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] decides to man the north end with [Bran|Brandelwyn alVere], [Gaul], [Chiad] and [Loial]. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] sees all sorts of familiar faces in the ranks, [Eward Candwin], [Paet al'Caar], [Buel Dowtry], [Jac al'Seen], [Wit al'Seen], [Flann Lewin], [Jaim Torfinn], [Hu Marwin], [Elam Dowtry], [Dav Ayellin], [Ewin Finngar], [Hari Coplin], [Darl Coplin], [Bili Congar], [Berin Thane], [Athan Dearn], [Kevrim al'Azar] and [Tuck Padwhin]. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] rides over to [Verin|Verin Mathwin]. [Verin|Verin Mathwin] tells him he is a very interesting study along with [Rand|Rand alThor] and [Mat|Matrim Cauthon]. [Verin|Verin Mathwin] says, "You do not know what marrying [[Zarine Bashere] means, do you?" Looking at his axe, she says, "When are you going to give this up for the hammer?" [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] wonders what she knows and what she means by this.[1]

Suddenly there is a roar from the woods, "[Isam|Isam Mandragoran]!" [Verin|Verin Mathwin] murmurs that that is interesting.[2] The [Trollocs] shout, "[Isam|Isam Mandragoran]!" twice more then attack. There are so many [Trollocs] they reach the village and overrun the wall of stakes. [Aram] saves [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] when a [Trolloc|Trollocs] grabs him. The women are fighting as well. A boy brings word that men from [Deven Ride] are attacking the [Trollocs] from the south. Then [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] sees the [Manetheren] banner to the north. Men from [Watch Hill] have arrived with [Faile|Zarine Bashere] and [Bain]. The boy returns with another report on the men from [Deven Ride]. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] thanks him and asks his name. The boy says he is [Jaim Aybara] and thinks he is a distant cousin. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] calls him Cousin and the boy runs away, delighted, to tell his friend [Had|Had2].

The [Trollocs] and [Fades|Fade] are slaughtered. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] rides out to meet [Faile|Zarine Bashere]. [Faile|Zarine Bashere] is ecstatic that men followed her in battle. Even [Tenobia|Tenobia si Bashere Kazadi] has not done that. She wanted to, but [Davram Bashere] forced her to change her mind. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] thinks that the victory does not make up for [Deselle|Deselle Aybara] and [Adora|Adora Aybara] and [Paet|Paetram Aybara], but it will have to do. All the people of the [Two Rivers] surround him and [Faile|Zarine Bashere].

The [Whitecloaks|Children of the Light] ride up led by [Dain|Dain Bornhald] and [Byar|Jaret Byar]. [Dain|Dain Bornhald] tries to arrest [Perrin|Perrin Aybara]. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] tells him their bargain is void because they did not help. [Dain|Dain Bornhald] says he will see [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] dead if the world burns and another [Whitecloak|Children of the Light], [Farran], draws his sword. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] orders them to leave the [Two Rivers] and the throng supports him. The [Whitecloaks|Children of the Light] make their retreat. A group of [Watch Hill] men come up and their leader introduces himself as [Jerinvar Barstere]. He says they will accompany the [Whitecloaks|Children of the Light] if it is alright with [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] and [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] gives his okay.

After they leave, [Faile|Zarine Bashere] tells [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] that that was the mayor of [Watch Hill] and the Village Council. The Wisdom, [Edelle Gaelin], and the Women's Circle will be paying a call on [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] once all is safe. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] says all he wants is to be a blacksmith, but [Faile|Zarine Bashere] tells him it is too late. They ride back to the inn to shouts of "Lord Perrin Goldeneyes!"

! __Padan Fain__ POV

Watching from a tree a mile north, [Ordeith|Padan Fain] does not understand how things went wrong. [Isam|Isam Mandragoran] played into his hands, but why did he stop bringing in [Trollocs]?[3] He wanted the [Two Rivers] totally destroyed in order to bring [Rand|Rand alThor] to him. He sees the [Manetheren] banner and thinks that this will give him another way to scourge them.[4] He misses the [ruby dagger|Ruby Dagger] and plans to retrieve it from the [White Tower].[5] He drops to the ground and gathers his thirty ex-[Whitecloaks|Children of the Light] and the [Fade]. The [Fade] fears that [Isam|Isam Mandragoran] will find it. Thinking on this, [Ordeith|Padan Fain] is pleased that [Isam|Isam Mandragoran] was angry that the [Taren Ferry] raid let so many escape.[6] They gallop north to [Caemlyn],[7] then [Tar Valon].

! Notes (Possible Spoilers)

[#1] Yet another oddity from [Verin|Verin Mathwin]. We finally learn in [KoD,Ch4] that this comment is probably in response to a line from the [Karaethon Cycle|Karaethon Prophecies], "When the Wolf King carries the hammer, thus are the final days known."\\
[#2] Clearly she has put two and two together about [Luc|Luc Mantear] and [Isam|Isam Mandragoran] from the [Dark Prophecy]. ([TGH,Ch7])\\
[#3] So [Fain|Padan Fain] does not know that the [Waygate|Ways] was permanently closed.\\
[#4] It is not at all certain what he means by this, but it could be that he plans to incite war between the [Two Rivers] and [Andor]. This would be consistent with him going to [Caemlyn].\\
[#5] How does he know where it is? [Fain|Padan Fain] can sense the [ruby dagger|Ruby Dagger] when it is close. Can he sense it that far away?\\
[#6] [Fain|Padan Fain] apparently planned this to make sure word of the [Trollocs] would reach [Rand|Rand alThor].\\
[#7] The next time we see him is with [Elaida|Elaida do Avriny aRoihan] in the [White Tower]. ([TFoH,Prologue]) It is not clear what he accomplished in [Caemlyn] or if, indeed, he ever went there.\\
