[Perrin|Perrin Aybara] and [Faile|Zarine Bashere] are walking to [Rand|Rand alThor]'s quarters in the [Stone of Tear]. [Faile|Zarine Bashere] still does not know about him being a [Wolfbrother|Wolf]. They encounter High Lord [Torean|Torean Andiama] and two guards looking fearfully in the direction of [Rand|Rand alThor]'s quarters. [Torean|Torean Andiama] smells of fear and too-sweet perfume. A moment later, [Berelain|Berelain sur Paendrag] comes out of [Rand|Rand alThor]'s quarters almost running. She smells of stark terror. [Faile|Zarine Bashere] mistakes [Perrin|Perrin Aybara]'s stare.[1] [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] hears [Berelain|Berelain sur Paendrag] talk with [Torean|Torean Andiama] down the corridor. [Faile|Zarine Bashere] goes on to bed while [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] continues to visit [Rand|Rand alThor]. Six [Maidens|Maidens of the Spear] including [Bain] and [Chiad] guard the anteroom.[2] He enters, takes one look at the blood and broken glass, and then yells for them to get [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred]. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] tells [Rand|Rand alThor] he was almost killed. [Rand|Rand alThor] tells [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] he did not do it; it was one of the [Forsaken]. They both wonder if [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] is all right. [Rhuarc] enters, saying [Berelain|Berelain sur Paendrag] told him what happened. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] and [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] enter.[3] [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] says it was not the [Forsaken]; it was a bubble of evil. The weakening of the [Dark One|ShaiTan]'s prison is allowing bubbles of evil to leak out and they are attracted to ''[ta'veren|Wheel of Time]''. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] [Heals|Weaves] [Rand|Rand alThor] and he nearly collapses. The wound in his side does not heal and he cites the [Prophecies of the Dragon|Karaethon Prophecies]:

* "His blood on the rocks of [Shayol Ghul], washing away the [Shadow|Creator], sacrifice for man's salvation."

[Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] continues to push [Rand|Rand alThor] to decide what to do, but he will not be pressured. [Bain] and [Chiad] bring a basin of water to clean him up and everyone else leaves. Outside, [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] and [Rhuarc] compare notes on the [Dragon Reborn|Rand alThor] versus [He Who Comes With the Dawn|Rand]. The [Prophecies of the Dragon|Karaethon Prophecies] and [Aiel prophecy|Aiel Prophecies] are different. [Rand|Rand alThor] still has things he must do before the [Aiel] are sure that he is [He Who Comes With the Dawn|Rand]. As [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] heads for his room he thinks he must convince [Faile|Zarine Bashere] to leave.
