! __Perrin__ POV

[Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] asks [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] how he knew about the [Gray Men|Gray Man]. Their taint is not strong enough for [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] or [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] to sense. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] tells him about the smell and about smelling them at [Jarra|Jarra (Village)] and [Remen]. [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran], [Perrin|Perrin Aybara], [Loial] and [Faile|Zarine Bashere] go outside to scout. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] smells the sulfurous odor again. [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] finds footprints in stone leading up to the inn and then away. He says there have not been [Darkhound] about since the [Trolloc Wars]. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] asks [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] why neither he nor [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] sensed the [Darkhound], but [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] does not know.[1] [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] goes off to find [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] and the others go to bed.

[Perrin|Perrin Aybara] has several dreams:

* A tall, slender man in richly embroidered coat and boots with gold fringe; most of the time he held what seemed to be a sword, shining like the sun, and laughed triumphantly. Sometimes the man sat on a throne, and kings and queens groveled before him. These felt strange, as if they were not really his dreams at all.[2]
* He is on a high stone spire. A window opens and he sees [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] rattling a dice cup. His opponent stared at [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] with eyes of fire. [Mat|Matrim Cauthon] did not seem to see the man, but [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] knew him. [Ba'alzamon|Ishamael].
* Another window opens - [Egwene|Egwene alVere] and [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] and [Elayne|Elayne Trakand] stood looking at a huge metal cage, with a raised door held on a heavy spring. They stepped in and reached up together to loose the catch. The barred door snapped down behind them. A woman with her hair all in braids[3] laughed at them, and another woman all in white[4] laughed at her.

[Hopper] appears and again warns [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] of danger. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] asks [Hopper] to explain the dreams. [Hopper] tries, but [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] does not understand. He asks why [Hopper] showed him [Ba'alzamon|Ishamael] and [Lanfear]. [Hopper] thinks [Heartfang|Ishamael] and [Moonhunter|Lanfear] and answers that the Last Hunt is coming. [Perrin|Perrin Aybara] tells him about the [Gray Men|Gray Man] and [Darkhound]. [Hopper] thinks [Notdead|Gray Man] and [Shadowbrother|Darkhound]. [Hopper] tells him to flee and knocks him off the cliff.

[Perrin|Perrin Aybara] wakes with [Faile|Zarine Bashere] in his room. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] enters looking pale and tells them the [Forsaken] are loose and one rules in [Illian|Illian (City)].
