[Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] searches the palace for [Bukama|Bukama Marenellin]. [Anya], [Esne] and [Bulen] are now loyal to [Edeyn|Edeyn Arrel]. She will give his %%ot [daori]%% to [Iselle|Iselle Arrel] and force them to marry. He feels trapped to the point he has no choice but to run, but he must convince [Bukama|Bukama Marenellin]. Moving quietly as he can, he spots %%blue [Merean|Merean Redhill]%% talking to [Iselle|Iselle Arrel]. [Iselle|Iselle Arrel] leaves and [Merean|Merean Redhill] follows her. [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] goes on his way, but as he reaches a flight of stairs his feet are pulled from under him and he tumbles down, very lucky to be okay.[1] It must have been the [One Power] meaning an [Aes Sedai] tried to kill him.[2] A servant runs up and tells him that [Bukama|Bukama Marenellin] was stabbed. By the time [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] arrives he is dead. [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] goes to find [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred].

[Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] enters her room and tells her that [Bukama|Bukama Marenellin] is dead. He thinks she did it. He tells her [Iselle|Iselle Arrel] was with %%blue [Merean|Merean Redhill]%%. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] is now certain that [Merean|Merean Redhill] is [Black Ajah] and figures they are all in danger. [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] tells her he just saw [Iselle|Iselle Arrel] hurrying somewhere with [Brys|Brys (Kandor)] and [Diryk].  They hurry to the secluded balcony where [Brys|Brys (Kandor)] goes for privacy. [Merean|Merean Redhill] is old; she was [Aes Sedai] a hundred years before [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred]'s great grandmother was born. 

At the balcony they find [Brys|Brys (Kandor)], [Diryk] and [Iselle|Iselle Arrel] with %%black [Merean|Merean Redhill]%% and [Ryne|Ryne Venamar]. [Merean|Merean Redhill] got [Iselle|Iselle Arrel] to bring [Diryk] to her, but she brought [Brys|Brys (Kandor)], too. [Merean|Merean Redhill] has [Brys|Brys (Kandor)] and [Diryk] bound with [Air|One Power], intending to kill them. [Ryne|Ryne Venamar] is with [Merean|Merean Redhill]. He is a [Darkfriend|Darkfriends] and he killed [Bukama|Bukama Marenellin]. [Merean|Merean Redhill] is too strong for [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] to shield. She orders [Ryne|Ryne Venamar] to kill [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] and make certain of it this time.[3] [Merean|Merean Redhill] wants to know what [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] is doing there.[4] [Ryne|Ryne Venamar] and [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] fight. [Merean|Merean Redhill] and [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] fight. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] severs [Merean|Merean Redhill]'s attack with [Air|One Power] and [Fire|One Power]. [Merean|Merean Redhill] drops [Diryk] off the balcony. As [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] dives for [Diryk], [Merean|Merean Redhill] knocks her out, then drops [Brys|Brys (Kandor)] off the balcony. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] comes to, but is too groggy to hold %%ot [saidar|Said]%%. In desperation she stabs [Merean|Merean Redhill] in the back. [Iselle|Iselle Arrel] starts to fall. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] grabs her hand, but cannot hold on. [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] kills [Ryne|Ryne Venamar]. [Moiraine|Moiraine Damodred] [Heals|Weaves#h] [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] with [Spirit|One Power], [Air|One Power] and [Water|One Power], then disposes of [Merean|Merean Redhill]'s and [Ryne|Ryne Venamar]'s bodies.
