It is morning. [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] is in the manor house of Lord [Algarin|Algarin Pendaloan] of House [Pendaloan|Tear (Country)] in [Tear|Tear (City)] a day west of the [Spine of the World]. Her hair ornaments include moons, stars, birds and fish. [Verin|Verin Mathwin] arrives and reports that the [Sea Folk][1] have been delivered to [Tear|Tear (Country)].[2] High Lord [Astoril|Astoril Damara] joined [Darlin|Darlin Sisnera] in the [Stone of Tear]. There are as many [Sea Folk] in the city as [Tairens|Tear (Country)]. [Harine|Harine din Togara Two Winds] immediately hired a boat to take her to the ships, expecting to be elected [Mistress of the Ships|Sea Folk]. [Nesta din Reas Two Moons] really is dead. 

[Min|Min Farshaw] enters, saying that that was not what her [viewing|viewings] said. [Min|Min Farshaw] came to summon [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] to [Rand|Rand alThor]. [Min|Min Farshaw] let slip to [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] that she is bonded to [Rand|Rand alThor]. After [Min|Min Farshaw] leaves, [Verin|Verin Mathwin] continues her report. She thinks [Hearne] and [Simaan] may give in and join [Darlin|Darlin Sisnera] when the other High Lords return from [Illian|Illian (Country)].[3] [Estanda] may be convinced to cooperate as well. She saw [Alanna|Alanna Mosvani] and [Rafela|Rafela Cindal] there, but avoided them per [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin]'s instructions. 

[Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] leaves to go see [Rand|Rand alThor]. [Verin|Verin Mathwin] starts to follow, but [Nesune|Nesune Bihara] comes up and insists on discussing [Verin|Verin Mathwin]'s report on animals of the [Drowned Lands]. [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] is still amazed that they get along as [Verin|Verin Mathwin] sides with the rebels while [Nesune|Nesune Bihara] is loyal to [Elaida|Elaida do Avriny aRoihan]. She wonders if it is [Rand|Rand alThor]'s %%ot [ta'veren|Wheel of Time]%% effect.[4] None of her ornaments protect against %%ot [ta'veren|Wheel of Time]%%. She does not know what two of the fish and one of the moons does. On her way she passes [Beldeine|Beldeine Nyram] and [Merise|Merise Haindehl]. [Beldeine|Beldeine Nyram] has worn the shawl less than five years and does not yet look [ageless|Ageless]. [Beldeine|Beldeine Nyram] has no [Warder|Warder] yet and is considering an [Asha'man].[5] [Merise|Merise Haindehl] suggests that she talk to [Daigian|Daigian Moseneillin]. She is still recovering from the loss of [Eben|Eben Hopwil]. [Damer|Damer Flinn] offered to try to [Heal|Weaves#h] her but she refuses. [Merise|Merise Haindehl] is surprised that [Corele|Corele Hovian] would allow it. 

All the [Warder], [Tomas], [Damer|Damer Flinn], [Nethan] and [Bassane], are in the courtyard below watching [Jahar|Jahar Narishma] and [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] practice swords. [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] wins every time. One of [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin]'s ornaments, an [eight-pointed star|Paralis-net], vibrates when she is near a man who can [channel|True Source]. Since [Merise|Merise Haindehl] and [Corele|Corele Hovian] practice linking with [Jahar|Jahar Narishma] and [Damer|Damer Flinn], [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] asks [Merise|Merise Haindehl] if the taint is truly gone. [Merise|Merise Haindehl] says that %%ot [saidin|Said]%% feels cleaner than it did before, but %%ot [saidin|Said]%% is such chaos to her that she cannot be sure if the taint is totally gone. She did not expect a definitive answer to one of the two most important questions in the world.[6] [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] also watches the practice. [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] wonders who [Lan|al'Lan Mandragoran] is bonded to.[7] [Nynaeve|Nynaeve alMeara] still wears the [bracelet and rings] %%ot [angreal|Angreal]%%, much stronger than [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin]'s [shrike|Paralis-net], and the [jewelry set|Jewelry Set] %%ot [ter'angreal|Angreal]%%. [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] earned her ornaments from an old woman named [Norla] in the [Black Hills] shortly after she became [Aes Sedai].[8] [Merise|Merise Haindehl] notes that [Jahar|Jahar Narishma] is still growing stronger in the [One Power]. [Rand|Rand alThor] promoted [Jahar|Jahar Narishma] to full [Asha'man], giving him a dragon pin. [Merise|Merise Haindehl] took it away, as [Warder] are not supposed to accept anything from anybody except their [Aes Sedai]. [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] worries that the rules for [Warder] and [Aes Sedai] are falling apart because of bonding men who can [channel|True Source]. 

[Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] goes to [Rand|Rand alThor]'s rooms where [Alivia] and [Elza|Elza Penfell] guard the door. There is some connection between [Rand|Rand alThor], [Min|Min Farshaw] and [Alivia] that she does not understand.[9] There are five other sisters in the manor house who have sworn fealty to [Rand|Rand alThor].[10] The ones from [Elaida|Elaida do Avriny aRoihan] are all possessive of [Rand|Rand alThor]. [Elza|Elza Penfell] opens the door and Lord [Algarin|Algarin Pendaloan] leaves. [Rand|Rand alThor] is still weak from [Shadar Logoth|Aridhol (City)], but he seems harder than ever. [Algarin|Algarin Pendaloan]'s younger brother [Emarin] could [channel|True Source]. [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] took him to the [White Tower] and helped him survive ten years after he was [gentled|stilling]. Now [Algarin|Algarin Pendaloan] wants to be tested. [Rand|Rand alThor] wants to talk about the [Seanchan|Seanchan (People)] Ever Victorious army. They have never lost a war. When they lose a battle, they regroup, figure out what went wrong, and adapt. [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] notes that the five great captains, [Gareth Bryne], [Agelmar Jagad], [Rodel Ituralde], [Davram Bashere] and [Pedron Niall] do that as well. 

[Rand|Rand alThor] is interrupted when [Erian|Erian Boroleos] and [Sarene|Sarene Nemdahl] barge in past an outraged [Elza|Elza Penfell]. They report that [Rashan|Rashan (Warder)], [Bartol] and [Vitalien] are nearby. They must have [Traveled|Weaves#t]. [Elza|Elza Penfell] acknowledges that her [Warder|Warder] [Fearil] is also close. [Rand|Rand alThor] says he did not expect it so soon. [Cadsuane|Cadsuane Melaidhrin] wonders who is bringing the [Warder] from [Cairhien|Cairhien (City)].[11] She thinks she may have gotten another answer from [Rand|Rand alThor].[12]
